Aim

To study the efficacy and safety of liposomal iron in the treatment for anemia after gastric or intestinum resection.

Material and methods

We recruited 80 patients with moderate to severe iron deficiency anemia that developed after gastric or intestinum resection for malignancy. All of them were treated with liposomal iron 30 mg once daily.

Results

At 7 and 28 days, there was increase in average concentration of hemoglobin by 6.8 and 37.5 g/L, serum iron by 6.8 and 11.0 μmol/L, serum ferritin by 11.0 and 134.0 μg/L, respectively. Treatment with liposomal rion was not associated with any side effects.

Conclusion

Liposomal iron effectively restores iron deficiency and has favorable safety profile.
