It is well known that cell-mediated and phagocytic reactions as well as production of endogenous interferons are down-modulated in patients with viral infections. Viral persistence may contribute to the development of atopic reactions and exacerbations of chronic pulmonary disorders. Inosine pranobex showed high clinical and immunological efficacy in the treatment and prevention of respiratory viral infections both in children and adults as well as in infectious mononucleosis caused by herpesviruses.
