The authors review the mechanism of action of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) aceclofenac and the results of its clinical trials in patients with pain and inflammatory syndromes. The studies suggest that aceclofenac has a pronounced analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and promotes restoration of cartilage tissue, inhibiting catabolic processes associated with inflammation. In back pain, the drug can be used in monotherapy or in combination with a myorelaxant. A significant advantage of aceclofenac over other NSAIDs is a favourable safety profile and minimal risk of gastric and cardiac toxicity, which contributes to improved adherence to treatment. Aceclofenac is a NSAID with a favourable benefit/risk ratio.
